It's F***ing Hot Outside

It's Fucking Hot Outside.

I've had a few clients mention recently that things feel very overwhelming and they don’t know why: that they're doing all the things that normally keep them feeling hopeful and pleasant, and yet for some reason, they just feel unusually overwhelmed and anxious.

And then they say "It's really fucking hot outside," and I say, "YES," because it's hot where I am too, and then we spend 10 minutes bitching about how sweaty we are AND THIS IS ALL SO VALID.

A reminder: if things feel more unpleasant or overwhelming than usual, that makes total sense!!!

For most of us, it is WAY hotter outside, or maybe you're in New Zealand and you can't even look out your window because it snowed so much (note: I don't know if that's a fact I just googled "places where it is currently snowing a shit ton" to make my point and New Zealand came up).

Or MAYBE your neighbor is dating someone new, which is totally cool, and they have been having really loud sex at 6am for the past 3 days and you’re not a morning person.

MAAAYBEEEE all you want to do is have some FREAKIN STRAWBERRIES and now they’re $3 more expensive than they were LAST WEEK.

The point is: our environment has a HUGE impact on us, and it can make things feel even worse when it is out of our immediate control.

So be kind to yourself, get a glass of water, take a breath, and maaaybe consider that you’re probably responding appropriately to what is happening around you right now.

And please, keep being silly.

P.S. Can I curse in a subject line?

Turns out carrots aren't just good for your eyes... Art By Anna-Laura Sullivan So recently I’ve been cooking more. I know it’s kind of a big deal. I’M CHOPPING THINGS WITH MY OWN HANDS. But no one told me it would take five extra minutes to cut up zucchini and carrots. Possibly seven if you’re trying to use a regular knife instead of a kitchen knife because you’d rather do anything else than clean another kitchen utensil. Five. Whole. Minutes. Just think of all of the other things I could get...

Sunlight, Pooping, and the Things We Tell Ourselves. Art by @bleobsdoodles I guess I’m now a morning person? WHAT. As I once again doomscrolled on my phone at 12:35am for ways to help me feel less stressed so I could poop more I came across a video about the importance of our circadian rhythm. Like duh, sleep is important and sun on your skin is important, and now wait….apparently TIMING is important (as if we don’t have enough to keep track of am I right?). It’s not just about getting sun,...

Hello!!! I was going to have my first letter to you all be my origin story... and for the life of me I have no desire to do that. Thankfully so far all of you subscribers are my friends and family, so I think I can get away with it....Hee hee. And now as I sit here in my living room, my aloha protein bar in hand, unshowered, in a t-shirt I've worn the past three days in a row, the feeling arises: the feeling there is something I should do or need to do, and all I want to do is something else....
